Sadly, New Zealand has a terrible record of child abuse and family violence. On average, one child is killed every five weeks and a young child is hospitalised every second day as a result of abuse or neglect.
Family Works services help restore children’s lives by helping them and their families overcome the effects of family violence and neglect. We also help prevent family violence by strengthening families through counselling, parenting programmes, and social work support.
At Family Works, we help more than 45 people every day – that’s around 16,300 children and their families every year. Almost 300 women and children attend family violence programmes, and thousands of children in low-decile schools have a social worker they can turn to for support. We couldn’t do all this without the support of our Guardian Angels.
With your help we will reclaim lost childhoods and rebuild families through a range of intensive wrap-around services like family counselling, parenting programmes, social work support, emergency food parcels and budgeting plans.
